Sustainable Supermarket Shopping

PURPOSE

To build a progressive web app that gives people access to information about whether their supermarket products are sustainable, healthy and ethical.

PROBLEM

People want to buy products that are good for them, better for the environment and fairer for others. However, with over 250,000 products, from thousands of brands, it's incredibly hard for consumers to know what to look for so they can buy with confidence from companies they trust.

SOLUTION

Users will be given the ability to look up a product and see how many badges it is awarded across sustainability, health and fairness. As a result they will be able to link their own values to the product in their hand.

The badges cover issues such as responsible sourcing, organic, carbon footprint, sustainable palm oil and healthier options and there are 13 badges in all.

This is a unique product: current solutions either don't have enough supermarket products (e.g. just cosmetics); are single issue (e.g just health) or don't offer alternatives. The latter is crucial to encourage change.
