5 Ways To Make Impact Beyond Earth Day

This Earth Day, on 22nd April, organisations, companies and individuals around the world will once again mobilise to address the most pressing environmental issues facing our planet, from deforestation and climate change to plastic pollution.

In this blog post we’ll take you through a little bit of background about Earth Day and then give you some actionable tips on how you can get involved.

So let’s learn something…then make some change!

History of Earth Day

The first Earth Day happened on April 22nd 1970 after Senetor Gaylord Nelson witnessed a huge oil spill off the coast of California. Since then it has grown into the world’s largest environmental movement and most widely observed secular event. Earth Day is marked by over a billion people as a day of action to change our behaviour and create policy changes on a global, national and local level.

But it’s not always easy to know what you can do to support Earth Day. So here are 5 ways you can make impact on Earth Day:

  1. Find Out About Our Earth Day Change Hour

On Monday 22nd April, 2pm-3pm BST (UTC+1)we hosted an Earth Day Change Hour, an online event where anyone could volunteer remotely with a startup changing the world for just one hour. People came together from all over the world to offer solutions to help Village Solar with their work. A lot was done in such a short space of time and some ChangeMakers offered to help beyond Earth Day! Find out more here.

2. Volunteer Your Skills

Supporting Earth Day can be so much more than planting trees or volunteering for a beach clean up. At We Make Change we have a new model of volunteering. In an age where you can get anything with a click, what if you could do the same with volunteering? By joining our community of ChangeMakers you can! We enable anyone, anywhere to supercharge impact startups supporting the causes they care about. So what are you waiting for?
